Has anybody seen Pitch Perfect? This movie is so weird; weird for a mainstream/rather popular film. There are multiple scenes involving projectile vomiting. Stand by Me levels of vomiting! Anna Kendrick dresses like Kristen Stewart’s character in Twilight and makes mash ups! Anna Kendrick wants to be a mash up DJ! The male lead looked like a cross between Dane Cook and that guy from the show, “Chuck” and all of the charisma that you could imagine from that pairing. Elizabeth Banks & John Michael Higgins are crowbarred into the thing! It’s so weird.
However, I should add that Anna Kendrick was good in the film and can sing surprisingly well. It’s just hard to believe her as a college freshmen when she’s played mostly adult characters. I get casting and sometimes, you just have to use the actor that best fits the part.

I can’t explain why but I really loved this movie. The previews (mostly Rebel Wilson’s parts, really) made it look promising but I didn’t expect it to be as weird either or as legitimately LOL-worthy as it was. I kind of figured it to be a straight-up Glee rip-off/cash-in but it wasn’t, at least not really. Yeah there’s singing, but not as much as you’d think, and most of it is really well-done and at least the songs are good. It’s also like 10% an homage to Best In Show. And, yeah, a lot of projectile vomiting.
I could almost buy Anna Kendrick as a college student but 30-year-old Anna Camp was a bit of a stretch, veering dangerously close to Gabrielle Carteris territory.
And per IMDB, “the role of Gail was originally written for Kristen Wiig but she declined due to scheduling conflicts. Elizabeth Banks, one of the film’s producers, eventually took the role” so that answers at least one thing.
