Why does it feel like ten years used to be such a lonnnnng time between things that happened? You used to be able to see a band from ten years ago and be like, “Holy crap, WHAT are they wearing.” Now it just seems like the Strokes came out looking like this, and then everything just stopped. And this is just what every band looks like now.
I’m pretty out of touch these days because I’m not hanging out in clubs or going to shows anymore, but I think the prevailing uniform for bands is still thrift-store chic. Maybe a little more refined and with a lot (A LOT) more facial hair, but otherwise that picture of the Strokes might as well have been taken yesterday.
You could probably look at a picture of Interpol from ‘01 and make the same claim, though.
